New focus on Swiss wine at the Zunfthaus zur Waag
New guild host, more Swiss wine
Our new guild landlord Fabian Reinhardt has been working intensively on new Swiss wine partnerships in recent months. The Zunfthaus zur Waag now stocks 26 white wines from different Swiss cantons. It is particularly important to Fabian Reinhardt to unite different winegrowers, local and indigenous grape varieties, as well as specialties and terroirs from various cantons on his wine list.
Focus on lake Zurich, but featuring also rarities from Graubünden
Fabian Reinhardt grew up next to Lake Zurich in Erlenbach and worked in Küsnacht for a long time. So it's not surprising that the wine list features Lake Zurich wineries such as Schwarzenbach, Schipfgut, Diederik, Lüthi and Bachmann in particular. The Chardonnay Sélection from Meilen and the Pinot Noir Barrique from Diederik, for example, have long been an integral part of our host's private wine cellar.
In addition to fine "everyday wines", a large vertical of the rare Pinot Noir Gantenbein can now also be enjoyed in the Waag. Almost all vintages between 2001 and 2019 are probably only available at the Waag.
The wine world is evolving, but classics remain popular
In addition to classic local specialties such as a Bündner Completer or Zürcher Räuschling, the Zunfthaus also stocks new trends such as the fungus-resistant Solaris from Meggen from the Sittenrain organic winery or the Sauvignon Soyhières from Rafz. However, the potential is far from exhausted. More unique Swiss wine rarities are soon to be found in the Zunfthaus. So it's worth taking a look at the wine list from time to time.
